Perhaps Elegant can lend us some insight on when the Striping is applied on the C7.

I just watched the 'How It's Made ' Dream Cars segment again and when the various body parts are attached to the frame, all parts are already painted. Once the tires touch the floor for the first time, the car moves to the alignment station, Dyno and water testing.
If the C7 is ordered with the stinger, or full length striping, at what point does this happen ? I read that an outside co. does the application, but it is done at the factory.

Any info please Thanks

Thanks Glen, but what I wanted to know is how the stripes are applied at the factory. I read awhile back, that the factory striping was clear coated after application. If that's true then is has to go to another spray booth. This has never been confirmed, but I do see a lot of C7's being delivered at the NCM with the dual striping.

No it comes to them with the clear coat on it by the vendor....like I said,, its applied at the end. Don't get too excited about having clearcoat, I can't tell the difference between a good vinyl vendor here for a lot less and the GM stinger stripe from Bowling Green. They look identical to me, two inches up close.

Yup, theres an edge....its still a vinyl type stripe, if you want no edge, it needs to be painted, and entire hood re-cleared.

One other consideration about the factory vinyl stripping, is that if you choose to later apply any urethane clear coating (do not care which brand), because of that "vinyl edge," there is always the possibility of a little void between the urethane being applied directly onto the vinyl stripe and the gap before it touches the adjoining painted panel. Some have commented negatively on this looking like an air pocket.

Also confirming above post that the vinyl striping is not applied until the very end, after the car is complete (except for the vinyl being applied and final testing).
