Planning for our museum delivery in a few weeks and we are wondering how thick a suitcase/bag will fit underneath the roof when the panel is stored in the truck?

If someone could measure the distance from the bottom of the panel to the truck deck that would be great.

I'm thinking we should simply pack 2 soft duffle style bags but hoping 2 20" soft side carry ons will work since I like having the roller bags getting around Atlanta between flights.

Thanks!

the 20 inch rollers should fit. I have put a set of golf clubs and a 22 inch roller in. You will not have a whole lot of extra space with 2. the space is about 35 inches deep. (front to back ) and about 10 inches high at the rear deck opening. Safe travels!

I'm sure the 2 carry ons will fit normally, just wanting to see if they fit under the roof when the roof is stowed in the truck.

Oh, ok. I misunderstood. I have had my roof out just one time. I would say no. The way it locks in the holder does not leave much room.

Mark I will be glad to check if someone else doesn't answer you shortly, but it will a couple of days. I can tell you that with the panel stored in RedHot's trunk I have been able to get a full sized cart bag with clubs in beneath it. If your rollers are more like duffle bags with wheels it should not be a problem, but if they are standard 22" carry ons, that might not work. You definitely want the panel properly secured with the built in latches in the trunk when it is back there so as to prevent it from moving on sudden deceleration.

I'm sure someone will actually measure for you soon, but I was able to fit a pretty fat small bag in there on my coupe rental. It is 11 inches deep top to bottom. There might be MORE room, but that for sure worked fine under the secured top off.

Too bad the 'Official Luggage' says NOWHERE what the dimensions are. I looked all around for it. They are very torpedo shaped and not as bulky as my normal small rollers. They also fit under the stored roof.

Yes, Rodney. The first place in the West half of the USA to have them - Rent A Vette in Phoenix. We went for Charles' birthday in Feb. You can see pics in the "Official Night Race Blue Photo Thread".

Had to try out the seats before agreeing to buy. :)

Back on topic - Can't believe nobody had chimed in with a measurement for you Mark! Wish I could help, as I busted my butt researching before my trip to Phoenix worrying what would fit so I know what you're going thru! I didn't have a clue about the top off situation then. I only wanted to know what the space was with the top ON! LOL!

I tested this out today. My 20" soft roller bag (about 10" in height), which I use as a carry on for flights, fits in the trunk underneath the painted roof. You will be able to fit two of them side by side, with quite a bit of room still in front of the trunk for duffel bags/etc. By front, I mean the area not covered by the roof.

And even with two roller bags, there's still room in between them for additional stuff.

There are 3 hinges (for lack of a better word) on the roof. Two in the front that secure it above the sun visor, and one in the middle/back. You need to push the front two hinges in while the roof is in the trunk for maximum space. The middle back one actually gets in the way of a roller bag directly in the middle, so when I place two of the side by side there's a hole in the middle. But don't worry, it's plenty wide enough.

I bought my car in Va while visiting my son. The car was sitting on the dealer's floor (Premier Edition Coupe). I made them an offer and drove the car home to So Florida. The car came with a 5 piece set of luggage which condensed into two average travel suitcases. We also had three other average size suitcase, a backpack and two addition bags. We lined the suitcases up standing on their side. The trunk or hatch area whichever u want to call it has an amazing amount of room. Traveling with a Vette is easy and of course fun to drive. We average 27 mpg on this. 925 mile drive. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks, that's great news! Maybe then I'll take both roofs when I go to FL in July, if I have The Red Knight by then, of course.

Does anyone know if the full luggage set will fit with the roof also stored in the cargo space. Also for those that have the luggage would they recommend buying it?

Thank you

I have the full luggage set. While I have never removed my targa top while carrying luggage, I recommend purchasing if it interests you. It is actually pretty nice compared to my other car-matched luggage sets. Very sporty and complete.
