This thread is dedicated to help out newer owners past all the detailed "stuff" that the C-7 is packed with. I am inspired by the 3 Honks, wheel hop, and several other threads by newer owners posting in this forum. If you have a specific question ask it here and "older hands" will hopefully help you out. (Hey Tina; How does it feel to be an older hand?) :D

OK guys , here's one for you...and I have read the manual (pg 2-16) - it concerns the alarm system. I was under the impression that if you removed the hatch, you were still protected against idiots putting their hands in the car, or just generally reaching in...mine does not do that, when alarmed, I can reach in and turn/grab the wheel, etc...opinion?

I heard Tadge Juetcher say that with the 2LT and 3LT's enhanced security system, that if, for example you reach into the "passenger cockpit" area in a a convertible, or a coupe with top off/window open, that there is a motion sensor alarm. Never heard anything about the hatch/cargo area.

Sorry , up above, hatch means roof removed........This is reaching in the car, over the window, to try and turn the steering wheel....as I understand it, this is what the intrusion alam was supposed to prevent......

Glen, I would have it checked out at the dealer next time you go in. The second day with RedHot I was 'caught' by reaching in to get a bottle of water out and the alarm went off, however the roof panel was on. I am pretty sure the next time it occurred (only a slightly slow learner :) ) was with the panel stowed in the trunk and I reached in to get my C7 hat out. My Porsche had a similar system of "internal radar" but it was less sensitive than RedHot.

How about a "How to change the oil on a dry sump motor" tutorial w/ tips. I know that you can screw that operation up (by adding too much oil) if you don't know what your doing.

I was over at Redline motorsports the other day and they were repairing a z51 C7 that had been improperly drained....apparently the big thing on the z51 dry sump is to drain BOTH bolts, not just one...

Here is a tip from Snorman:
"This is more of an FYI thread.
Today I backed out of the garage and noticed no sound while tuned to XM on any channel. The artist and title was displaying on the center screen (and DIC when configured), but there was just silence. Radio stations and media worked fine.
This happened to me in another car about a year ago. It was solved with a 2-minute phone call to XM. Dial to channel 2 to get your radio ID and they'll send a "reset signal" and all was normal again.
If this hasn't happened to somebody previously, they may think it's an infotainment issue with the car.
S. "

Glen; Yeah that's what I had heard. We need a picture of both drain bolts?
There is a pretty good diagram in the manual at 10-14. It applies only to the Z51, with one drain plug going to the crankcase sump and the other to the external oil tank (though both plugs are on the bottom of the engine pan.

Jeff; Can you explain; "though both plugs are on the bottom of the engine pan". I am confused about why there would be two drain plugs in the engine pan and not one in each location?(sump & engine pan)

I can only presume that it represents the lowest point for both systems and that is why they put it there- and/or they wanted to make sure that technicians saw and drained both when changing the oil on the Z51s.

one bolt drains the lines and tank, the other the pan, not sure why the confusion, page 10-14 in the manual is very clear and easy to comprehend.....
