Trunk Won’t Open - Can’t Charge

So, I’ve searched all over and found several helpful threads, but none for my exact issue.

I don’t get to drive my car very often. It was my dad’s and I inherited it when he passed several years ago. So, it mostly sits in my garage. I have the ctek battery recharger/reconditioner and use it as needed.

The battery is close to dying. I can’t start the car, but can get inside. However, there’s not enough juice to open the trunk so I can put the charger on it. I’ve tried the physical key by the license plate and it doesn’t work. It seems the cable has become detached. How can I get into the trunk to put my charger on and/or jump the car? Is there a spot to jump from the engine bay so I can just get the trunk opened to put the charger on it? The battery was brand new a couple years ago when I replaced it.

Any help is appreciated before I completely lose power and can’t get into the engine bay. It seems everything manual for the car is through the trunk.

If it were me, I would ask a child to crawl back (move the passenger seat forward if you can) and plug the CTEK into the trunk accessory plug. Once you get it plugged in, you can leave the CTEK connected indefinitely until you are ready to drive it again.

No opening to get into the trunk from the cabin on a convertible.

I found a spot to connect the negative cable in the engine bay. The positive is by the fuse box. Got it jumped with my wife’s car. Once I started it, it gave me the “folding top motion incomplete” error. Cycled the top and the trunk opened up right away. So frustrating. I’m taking to Chevy this weekend to get that looked at along with the trunk linkage. That still doesn’t work.

Car is on the ctek now. Will stay overnight.

Glad you got it started. You did not mention it was a convertible initially. Note, for future reference GM does not recommend that you jump start from the engine bay as the harness wasn't designed for that.

Ah man, you’re right I forgot to mention that. I started to, but had some formatting issues with my phone and erased it. Forgot to add it back, my apologies on that.

I did not want to start the car that way because I had read it’s not recommended. I only wanted enough juice to get the trunk open. Seems that the top motion was preventing me, but I never got that notification until I jumped the car and it started.

GM does NOT recommend jumping from the engine bay and starting the engine occasionally will not prevent the battery from running down. In fact, starting the car frequently and not allowing the engine to come up to operating temperatures will do more harm than good.

I start it up usually at least once a week and always let it run for a while so it comes up to temps. If I’m not doing that, I at least drive it around the neighborhood. I also work every other Friday and drive it to work those Fridays, which is 20-25 miles one-way. I’m usually pretty good about ensuring I maintain the battery, but I haven’t been able to do that recently for other reasons.

Thanks, however please see the first post, the OP tried that and it did not work.
