"We spoke with Corvette Exterior Manager Kirk Bennion about the colors and he confirmed with us that 2014 will be the last year for the popular Cyber Gray. In 2015, the yet un-named color will be take its place. GM uses different names internally than what we know, and the internal color name is called “Fusion Gray”. Bennion says they are still working on the official name but two names he mentioned are “Shark Gray” and “Tiger Shark Gray”. You can see the difference between the two colors with the “Shark Gray” being a much lighter shade of gray than the Cyber Gray. In addition to Cyber Gray going away, we also learned that this will indeed be the last year for Velocity Yellow. Although the new Corvette Z06 and C7.R show car introduced yesterday at NAIAS were Velocity Yellow, the 2015 Z06 will be wearing the new color when it goes into production in late 2014 or early 2015."

I like the new color. That plus the A8 may make me wait until the 2015 model year......

Chip, I was thinking something similar. I wondered why they would keep the Blade Silver since the Shark Gray is "somewhat" close. Also, it seems as if the Blade Silver is not chosen as much on the 2014s as many of the other colors.

Why discontinue the largest seller (Cyber Gray) and keep the less-chosen color (Blade Silver)?

By the way, personally, I like the Shark Gray more than Cyber Gray or Blade Silver. It really looks nice to me!

Do you think GM will offer both the A6 and A8 in 2015? When do you think they will retire the A6 from the non-Z06 StingRay?

No, I doubt it. It doesn't make sense as they would have to retool for 3 transmissions. The only possible way this would happen is if they had excess A6's at the end of the model run but since they build to order with their JIT manufacturing those days are gone too.

I see the A6 going away at the end of the MY2014 run but they will delay that news as long as possible to not steal MY14 sales.

I also thought they would want to use their new transmission design (A8) in as many places as reasonable going forward since they can then more quickly recover their development costs for it. On the other hand, as you pointed out, they would not want to hurt 2014 sales with the A6. Also, would they offer the A8 in Z06 only in 2015 as an extra selling point? I know the engine and aero on the Z06 are selling points all by themselves and don't need any extra help, but I wonder...

I have no experience to know. What do others think?

It's possible, the SAE paper that leaked talked about the A8 for the 2015 Corvette but they could have meant the Z06, I hope not.

I am glad they are dropping CyberGray Metallic. It's what I ordered for my 2014 2LT Z51 Coupe and I was dismayed when I found out that like 30% of 2014s were ordered in CGM.
I am only speculating as I am now marketing or brand expert, but a possibility is that they don't want too many of one color on the streets (except for maybe red), and the very popularity of it could be a driving factor in discontinuing it.

Just a thought?!?!

SO GLAD I ordered the Cyber Gray! I like much more than the Shark Gray and it's good to know GM decided to share the wealth WRT other colors. We don't want too many Cyber Grays out there!

That could definitely be the case, it certainly seems to be one of the most popular colors. Back in 2004 when I ordered my Toyota Spyder I ordered it in "Gray Pearl Metallic" later to be known as Cyber Gray, as it was a new color that I had not really seen before and I liked it, along with the exclusiveness of it at the time. Within two years all of the manufacturers were offering there version of it, and now it is one of the most common colors I see on an average day. It really looks great on the C7, there's no denying that, but not wanting too many of one color that is already on so many vehicles could be true. I too would like to see the new color next to Blade Silver (also one of the most common colors on cars today) as that was what I was planning on ordering, but the new color really looks nice! Now I need to choose between the two. I wonder if the new gray is metallic?
