I am just curious to see how many of you have added Vertical Doors. I ordered all the options I wanted and the only thing I could think of to make it cooler, besides adding a blower, were vertical Doors. Not practical but we didn't buy these cars not to show them off. Also the first thing someone says when I open up the door is, was that an option? Aloha, Mark

Actually my favorite door of all time is the 1956 Mercedes Gullwing. Aloha, Mark
Agree, they are both elegant and functional.

How does the latch mechanism work now? What modifications had to be done to the door to latch with a downward motion instead of an inward motion? Do you have pictures of both the new latch and new catch?

Basically you remove the stock hinges there are 2 and then you replace it with a single hinge assembly that has both horizontal and vertical motion. The way it works is you open the door normally out about 20 inches and then raise it up to a vertical position. The conversion I purchased allows you to convert it back and the assembly doesn't require removing the fenders or modifications to the body. For it to work the wiring harness has to be lengthened by 9" I found out the hard way that the harness is not completely color coded. Anyway although it's impractical if you look at the photo's it gets peoples attention. Anyway I am a body man so I can fix almost anything. While installing I caused some damage to the front fender because the door weighs like 200lbs and if you don't align the pivot just right it moves around and causes damage to the fender. Actually even when It's installed correctly the tolerances are so thin that its less than a paper width wide for clearance. I love mine though. People freak out when you get out and lift is straight up. Hope I answered you're question. Aloha, Mark

P.S. Send me you're e-mail and I will send some photo's of the hinge set and application. Also because this is my delivery vehicle for Subway I have not installed the Passenger door Hinge yet because I need to be able to open the door up all the way to fit the product to take to my stores.

That is interesting. Would you like to post your photographs here for all to see? I also think a video taken of you opening and closing the door would be fun to watch!

Here are videos of the hinge and its operation. 2 different videos. The hinges are 3/8in solid steel and weigh about 20lbs ea. Also when you install them you have to lengthen the original wire harness by 9 1/2" the wires are not all color coded and there are 30 in the drivers door. What that means is when you cut the harness in half you should make sure that you number every single wire on both sides of the cut so you can match them up exactly. This is the longest process because with 30 wires that's 120 Wire strips, 60 individual solders, 60 heat wrapped insulations. This is the longest part of the installation and took me about 6 hours. The door itself weighs about 200lbs so its very difficult to keep putting it on and taking it off to adjust the gaps. Anyway once it is installed it's great. I like to show off every chance I get. Hope you enjoy. Unfortunatly I can't figure out how to upload the video's I tried but it won't let me access my c:/ drive. I think it only allows videos from Hulu, Youtube or google. I will load them to my facebook page and then send you a link. At least I think that will work. Aloha, Mark

In Addition to my Question About Vertical Doors

How many C7 owners hate the chrome strip in the grille. This car is Gorgeous a mix between a La Ferrari and a Lamborgini Huracan and they put that strip of chrome in a perfect black grille. I don't get it. Aloha, Mark
