So I keep reading that Rick Hendrick will be getting VIN #1 when Z06 production begins, which implies a separate and unique VIN sequencing for Z06 cars.

My C6Z had a letter code denoting the LS7 engine but the actual vehicle number sequencing was intermixed with Base and Grand Sport cars.

Is Chevy going to have a separate numbering sequence for Z06?

I will bet that GM will have at least one letter or number in the sequence that will distinguish it as a Z06 model.

Exactly, the Z06 will have both a unique model differentiation code and a unique engine code. The Z06 coupe is model code: 1YZ07; the Z06 convertible is 1YZ67, and both will figure into each Z06's VIN.

Here is an earlier charts/info provided by "jsvette" for the 2014 StingRay.

Do they sometimes use something like 5300001 instead of 5100001, or will the significant changes be to character positions #5 and #8?

I understand how the VIN breaks down as the above chart details. I guess I didn't ask my question clearly enough, so let me try again.

My 2011 Z06 was VIN # 1G1YK2DE2B5106964. The 4th and 5th digits ("YK") denoted Corvette Z06, while 8th digit ("E") denoted the LS7 engine. So far so good. The 106964 denoted that it was the 6964th Corvette built in 2011, not the 6964th Z06 built in 2011 as there were only 904 Z06 cars built in 2011.

My point being that there couldn't have been a 100001 sequence base car, a 100001 Grand Sport, and a 100001 Z06 as there weren't 6964 Z06s built in 2011.

2015 Stingray production started in August and so sequence numbers would be way past 100001 by the time Mr. Hendrick's Z06 roles off the line - unless they are now using unique sequence numbers for Z06.

z06s in the past were numbered in normal sequence with regular vettes. On the other hand, '13 427 convertibles, and the '14 Premier coupes and convertibles have unique VINs. My 427 has a 57000xx VIN, while the Premier cars are 5300xxx or 5400xxx.
