Does anyone know why the roof of my 2014 non z51 corvette stingray coupe is heavier than the roof on a 2014 corvette stingray z51 coupe model? My husband has the stingray with the z51 package and his roof is noticeably lighter when compared to my non z51 roof. They are both made of carbon fiber so I'm wondering why mine is so much heavier? Has anyone else noticed this difference? Why do you think this is?

It would be very interesting to know the weight of each. If you don't have a convenient way to weigh each, the following three measurements will do it.

On a bathroom weight scale, weigh your husband. #1
Have him to then hold his roof and reweigh himself. #2
Have him to then hold your roof and reweigh himself yet again. #3.

Then his roof weighs #2 minus #1, and your roof weighs #3-#1.

Please let us know what his roof weighs, and what your roof weighs.

I remember seeing weights listed on here many months ago for the transparent and the carbon fiber roofs. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the transparent weighed slightly more.

There is no difference in roof panels between the Z51 and non-Z51 (or any other body panel for that matter with the exception of the rear spoiler before someone is compelled to correct me). The three roof panel choices are painted carbon fiber, exposed carbon fiber and transparent (polycarbonate). The transparent panel should weigh in just under 21 pounds and the carbon fiber panel should be right around 16.5 pounds.

As talon90 noted both the exposed carbon fiber and the painted carbon fiber roof panels weigh the same. So if your roof panel is noticeably heavier you must have the transparent panel which is not carbon fiber but poly-carbonate. Note, if you do have the transparent and your husband has the exposed carbon fiber, they will look very similar from about 5 feet away so you might have thought you also had the carbon fiber panel. Another way to tell is if you have the transparent and he doesn't, you will be able to see out of yours and not his.

The transparent roof is heavier than 21 lbs as someone stated earlier.

It's a lot heaver than the carbon fiber roof too.
I beg to differ. It is under 20 pounds- at least RedHot's was when I weighed it. More like 18.5 or 19 pounds total.

Yeah. I had both tops for my coupe. The transparent roof was just a tad bit heavier than the standard carbon fiber roof. It wasn't a huge difference at all.... I estimate a few pounds variance, if that. Both were quite easy & light enough to handle albeit just bulky.
