Over the weekend I had an unfortunate event which damaged my ACS Composite front splitter. I was leaving a downtown parking structure which had an extremely deep dip that was unavoidable at any angle. Would just like to remind everyone with a front splitter to use more caution when entering buildings or structures with inclines. It is definitely not going to be cheap to fix this but stuff happens. :(

Well, some of the folks from the flatland states back east will tell you to "lower your car, it's all okay!" They seem to have no idea how steep some of the areas are around here. This is exactly why I will not install the Stage 1 front splitter on the Z06, but will instead offer it for sale. Also, it is part of my PDI agreement that they will raise the car up on the stock bolts as high as possible and then give me a full alignment.

Otherwise, this could easily happen to me all over the place here, including my own driveway.

Ryan, I hope you get this all worked out. Be especially careful when you are across the bay; it's a lot more rugged on the peninsula's spine than the East Bay Hills are.

Ouch!

That made me cringe.

I use 2x12's to get in and out of my driveway when I bring my C7 home to clean it.

If I don't, the nose only clears by 1/8" and that's too close for me.

Personal observation is required.... Driveways that are problems exist on all surfaces, including the "flat states " as mentioned above. A curb alert calibrated for the low impending surface has alerted me several times not to proceed. 2000 miles, no problems, fully lowered.

Sorry about that damage.

Is the purpose of the splitter cosmetic, or does it have a positive influence on airflow?

At Daytona for airflow, for everyone else, totally cosmetic, of course.....

Man, I feel for ya! I have an incline pulling into my driveway that is pretty steep. A tip for those who are contemplating a splitter and have potential driveway issues, before putting on an ACS air dam on my C6, I fabricated one out of cardboard to the ACS specs and attached it to the valence and made some test runs. I have to enter my driveway frontwards and back out, but living in a cul de sac, I don't have to back into traffic. Will have that decision to make again when the C7 gets here in Oct.

Sorry for damaged splitter..I have found if you can find the missing piece you may make temporary repairs with it and the Black Gorilla tape and plasti dip. It's not perfect but if it's not the carbon fiber finish you can make temporary repairs.

I had a 2012 Grand Sport and replaced the front splitter because of the very low clearance. Even though you get used to where you can and can not go (most driveways), you can still get nailed in parking lots by the cement stops by getting too close...just gotta know your limitations.....would never lower, though unless you never take it off the street

Sorry to see what happened to your front splitter.
I can't believe many want to lower their
car. My C7 sits higher than my 2010 Grand
Sport and that is a good thing. Constantly
scrapped on inclines that weren't that
steep. Even going slow and at an angle it
would scrape. Tested my new car on
old problem ramps and no scrapping.
All should be aware of damage that can
occur. Thanks for post.

One more time: A C7 is not a prev gen Vette....It has more clearance than any prev gen in recent memory starting stock:
This is fully lowered WITH A SPLITTER:

But no matter, lower it, find it scraping? Raise it back, in 10 min.....

THAT is a great idea. I am going to do the same when I get my Z06. My driveway may be trouble spot for me. The driveway being very difficult to see stopping and/or backing up to check for clearance would not be a great idea. I'd rather mangle a piece of cardboard!

Very sad situation, is harder for me to see it because we worked so hard to install it and to remove so he can have repaired it.
And I know how careful he his and how much he loves his car.
Will be ready at the end of the week and here we go again, installing it back on.

Was the front bumper cover also damaged? If yes, from direct contact with the ground, or 2ndary contact with the splitter?

Sorry that happened to you...
No fortunately it was only the splitter.

Sorry bluray
But you still have a beautiful car
Thanks grilloz!

You may want to call ACS directly. I saw in another post that they helped out a little with a replacement discount.
I have one on my C7. It is taking a little getting used to as my daily driver is a Ram 1500 Crew cab... Major difference.
