Hey Team,

If it's true that a well-optioned Z06 will come out to around $90-95k which is roughly 15-20k more than a well-optioned Z51 C7 (~ 75k), then should we consider the Z06 a bargain-priced upgrade?

In my mind the closest competitor to the Stingray is a Porsche Carrera 911S which produces 400HP (MSRP 110-135k or higher) and Porsche sells an "X51 powerkit" for around 11k that adds only 30HP and only improves the 0-100 km/hour sprint by 0.1 seconds.

It truly amazes me how much more value you get with the Stingray platform. I was wondering how many potential Z06 owners are justifying their purchase with this rationale. :)

Last month I purchased a well equipped Z51 (3LT mag ride NPP and more) for $67K so the Z06 would be almost 33% more not to mention higher taxes and insurance. The Z06 is a bargain for what you get compared to Porsche and other makes, but not compared to the Z51, especially those of us that got it at its original price.

How about both the StingRay and the Z06 being bargains! The StingRay for, well, it's "everything fantastic" (to name all its tremendous attributes would make this post very, very long), and the Z06, for while a comparable, well-equipped Z06 will cost 33% more than a StingRay, it develops that and more percentage HP and TQ. C7 buyers are faced with a win/win!!!

Like choosing between gorgeous, identical twins when I was 17 (died and went to heaven)....

I think it has more to do with whether you have the money and in that case it's really not an issue because the dollar difference isn't all that much. It's like getting a basic base stingray vs a loaded Z51. All 3 are great values but offer more if upgraded. If cash is an issue and you want the Z06 it's justifiable because it will be an incredible car and you only live once. The difference between that and a decked out Z51 in the grand scheme of things isn't all that much more. I have a 14 Z51 came in at $73 if your stretched at that then don't get the Z06 but your the only one that knows what you can manage and what will really make you happy. Any of the above should make you happy.

Are there any photos out there of a C7 and a Z06 next to each other? It would be interesting to see the aero/aesthetic differences.

But you can supercharge a stingray and tune to 630HP and still be well under the cost of a z06. You can get a procharger installed for about $8000 with tune. I just got a quote from Mac auto sports in Parker Colorado. I think most people that would spend this extra money is for the look and the wide body kit. As far as performance you can nearly identical in the stingray, at that point it would be up to the driver.

So, um, tell us more about the gorgeous identical twins elegant!
To not get this thread off topic, but they were both smart, athletic, blonde and more than beautiful. It ended badly for me, when they each, quickly, found about my dating their sister, neither would ever talk to me thereafter. They were right, and I was a dumb 17 year old typical teenage male jerk, and got what I deserved, e.g. sent packing.

Back to Corvettes....

I agree about driver skills being preeminent. I am positive that Tommy Milner (C7.R driver) would kick 99% of us if he were driving a no-option Stingtay, even if his competitors that day had a ProCharger or other supercharged StingRay, and I and others here had a Z06 on that same track that day. Driver skill is the most important variable.

Derrick, regarding your choice to get a ProCharger and not a Z06, you have convinced yourself -- which is all that counts, and you have convinced some others on our forum, but years of your further posting will not convince those of us planning on a Z06. It's all good that we have different opinions.

As another example, more Corvette owners are buying a Torch Red one than any other color, but I will never buy one, and no one will never pry me away from my upcoming Velocity Yellow Corvette (VY is the third LEAST popular color.)

We all get to choose what our priorities and preference are.

I was going to do that but I didn't want to lose warranty. And don't trust 3rd party warranties as there is always some kind of gimmick.

If yellow is the 3rd least popular color then what is the most popular to least?

For 2014, and these are still unofficial paint color priorities but believed accurate, Lime Rock Green was the least popular StingRay color, with Night Race Blue being the second least popular. Here is what we know was accurate through April 3th.

You would not loose warranty. GM can only deny warranty if they can link the problem you have to that after market product. Ie the supercharger is the root cause of your warranty claim .

Essentially true. But I really don't want to be the poor soul trying to win the argument while my car is in pieces. Being right and gaining agreement are two totally different things.

I'm going to refrain from enumerating the reasons I'm going with a Z06 instead of going the homebrew approach. Whatever approach one chooses, I hope they enjoy the heck out of the car!

Yup either choice is a great one! I will end up with a new z06 eventually. I'm thinking a year after release, in 2016 I think ;)

Now come on John, if GM gave you a free Torch Red Z06 you would drive the wheels off it with a big grin to boot. LOL
