Just wondering if other Z51 owners are experiencing problems with brake dust. If I take a 10 mile ride,my car has to be wiped down to remove all the brake dust. I'm considering changing my pads to some Carbotech 1521 ceramic pads. I've heard they perform as good or better than the OE's with 75% less dust. I'm also afraid with this much dust it will cause problems with the chrome rims. Does anyone know the composition of the factory Z51 pads?

Hello Booie: I think you will find that most asbestus(sp) brake pads will leave dust on your wheels no matter what kind of car you have. The answer to the problem is as you have already spoke of is the ceramic pads. There will be no dust but you do run the riusk of noisy brakes when doing mostly city driving. My ZR1 had had no brake dust to speak of and it had ceramic composite rotors as well as pads. But boy were they noisy, to the point that I was embarrassed when I pulled up to a red light. I had to down shift and slow the car right down before braking to keep the noise to a minimum. The rev match paddle will really help in this regard. Mind you I do enjoy double clutching as it gives me the sense of more control of the car and it sounds better when down shifting. More rumble and gutteral throaty sounds. Cool.

Holy crapola is there brake dust!
there has to be an answer for this.
It's part of the Z51 "experience." My '10 GS was the same way. Some have changed brake pads, my solution was to clean the wheels often. Adam's Green Wheel Cleaner and a quality boar's hair brush made it a fairly easy and quick task.

Clean wheel with a good de iron product like Sonax Full Effect
2 coats of a good polymer like Rejex (mail order) or Nu-Finish (local)

Most brake dust now flushes off with hose- life 100% easier...

Can it be used on the Chrome rims?

Hey Cyber,

I got this product at our Chevy Expo here in Houston. I am not one for gimmicks but after cleaning my rims every day I almost would try anything. This Polish goes on easy, wipes off easy, and then you apply the Sealant and it lasts for about 2 weeks and all you have to do is go over each wheel with a quick dust off with a Microfiber cloth. You don't have to scrub or wipe-it is so easy. This stuff rocks. Chrome looks awesome. Check out my photo from the last car show-I won best in class and I was on the ground doing the wheels at the show site. I never do the wheels until I get there because of the tire black ( it gets on the car). I think the pic shows the phone number of the vendor. I can safely say this stuff works. It was $40 for two bottles of polish and one bottle of sealant. Vehicle Motor vehicle Automotive design Car Alloy wheel
