her first oil change. noticed the color of the oil is really dark. the process was really easy. refill with about 9.2 qt, don't want to overfill. ran it, checked it, perfect amount! could tell the engine runs a lot smoother and some what quieter with the mobil 1 extended performance oil. decided to go with the fram synthetic oil filter after doing my research.

Yep, I'm a FRAM fan as well - love the SureGrip coating - no tools required for removal.

My z51 does not have a supercharger or turbo. And i have other brand new cars i changed the oil on...non of them even this close to being this dark and i changed those with a lot more miles on it. A few mechanics told me it the cheap oil they prob put in when the car got deliver to the dealer. At least now i know i put in mobil 1. I could feel the different right away. Engine runs smoother...

I didn't change the oil because i saw it was black on the dip stick. I changed it because i know they did not put mobil 1 full syn from the factory or dealer.

I just said it was darker (darkest) than any other car oil change i have ever seen. Even a few mechanics agree it was straight up cheap (most likely none syn) oil.

It would have been GM's semi synthetic oil from the factory. The same as the dealer includes with your free oil change.
I've always been told you can't go from mineral oil to full synthetic without first using a semi synthetic first. It would somehow damage the full synthetic.

Dealers are slowly getting the word on GM's new agreement with Mobile Oil and that is to put in all 2014 and 2015 Stingrays. If your local dealers doesn't do it automatically ask them to call their warranty reimbursement number while you are there and before they change the oil in your Stingray. That should resolve it at least for your specific oil change. That is what I experienced recently when I took RedHot in, and after the call they put in Mobile 1.

In the summer, I went through a 4 hour debate at dealership about this Jsvette, and he finally relented and put in Mobil1 at no extra cost. I scheduled my 2nd change for this friday, and made sure this would not be an issue again. It will not be. The warranty reimbursement ticket from last time went through fine.

I thought Mobil1 was going in from factory, even as early as Spring 2014. Was it not? does anybody really know for sure?

You could be right, the new agreement was signed in May of this year. So I would anticipate that all Stingrays from that point forward were filled with Mobile 1.

I did my research and all Stingrays are to recommended to use Mobil 1 fully syn.

After changing my oil the first time and seeing how extremely dark the color was, i doubt the factory put in mobil 1. I could feel a big difference. With mobil 1 extended fully sys the engine runs smooth and sounds a lot better. I also monitor the oil temp closely and i knoticed unless I'm really gunning it or driving in rush hr traffic on a hot day, it takes a long time for it reach 209* F. with the factory oil, it get up to 225 really quick. Maybe im just nit picking but do far that's what i observed...

The last part is a lack of continuing education by the mechanic community and dated back 20+ years when synthetics were PAO based. Today there is no reason to worry as all common synthetics use a base stock that is completely compatible whether the oil is labeled synthetic, semi-synthetic or standard oil.

In fact most standard oils are synthetic blends and protect better than the best boutique synthetics from 20 years ago.

Put in what you want but be assured ANY DEXOS certified oil regardless the cost will provide all the protection your engine needs unless you routinely track it.
