Has anyone ever installed a Z51 spoiler (on a non-Z51 model), using extra strong double sided tape or glue (only)? As opposed to drilling holes in the bumper, etc..?

I'm considering it

IMO Independent of any assurances that the tape would hold 'forever,' I would be very concerned about the considerable pressure exerted on the spoiler at speed, eventually resulting it its potentially separating and flying into the path of another car. I would definitely want the added security of the proper screw installation.

If GM were completely satisfied with 3M industrial two sided tape, IMO the best tape that there is, GM would have avoided tons of cost and effort involving the current bolt on method.

Sure someone has done it and it happy with it, but will it hold if you are in an accident, or will it fly off and capitate someone. Like Jeff, not a risk I would take.

Spoiler should not be put on with tape. period. Far too much pressure on the adhesive.

If you do it, make sure both surfaces are virgin clean; alcohol, acetone, the whole bit. But I still wouldn't do it.

I seem to recall GlenE did his spoiler himself shortly after getting his '14. I know the spoiler comes with a template you tape to the fascia to mark the drill locations. It doesn't look to be too difficult - I think removing the rear fascia to mount the spoiler is more effort.

Yep it's an easy drill once you get the back off the car ...the template is fine. These are the type of jobs that if you get the guts to do them, and just think about it , and read the instructions, you feel a lot more confident to do other things save you a lot of money. The stuff is just not hard, I have found all the GM instruction docs to be very good over the years. And the tools are mostly sockets , screwdrivers, torx heads and a trim popper, that's about it.

I don't have instructions or a template lol. A buddy of mine gave me his old z51 spoiler. I guess I can always just put masking tape on the back and align the spoiler where it should go making the bolts make a small indent in the tape, and just drill there.

Yup, just make one...painters tape,.put a hint of paint on the stud, have a friend help you set it down perfect, mark it and drill it
And you got lots of leeway because the spoilers going to cover any minor hole elongation you make…

Z 51 install document is here somewhere.

Someone on another forum did this, but not sure of the long term results. I had side scoops installed on a GT500 with just 3M tape and they were rock solid, but the contact area was greater with less drag. I don't think I would attempt this with a rear spoiler. Drilling shouldn't be too difficult with a template. GL
