I'm a youngster at 51! As to the younger crowd running those other cars, I think a lot has to do with disposable income of course but then there is perception and reality.
First perception.....ever seen a corvette commercial? Yea me either. Seems Chevy rarely runs them but yet every younger generation sees countless commercials on dodge products, ford mustangs, and even camaros on Chevy ads...but Vette's, not so much. Lastly on perception is the value and price. Until I actually went to buy a new one back in January 2015 I had no idea what they costs and just knew I couldn't afford one. Perception is not reality.
Now reality says, it's a sports car not a muscle car. But what does mean and does anyone under 40 care? I can't define the technical difference but since the younger under generation isn't into cars like us older folks it's clear there is a difference and it matters to a certain buying segment. Pricing reality is clearly not known on the younger crowd as I see kids in high end BMWs, Lexuses, Porches where the price is at par or way above the corvette price. Then I look at the trucks here in Texas and wow they crush the costs of corvettes with the lift kits, lights, wheels, etc.
Now to your observation of the age...I've noticed it too and I do my best to drag that number down. It is thrilling to meet someone at a light or gas station and talk shop so to speak. To talk cars, put them in the drivers seat or run them around the block real quick. It's fun to do for both parties. Like many here on SRF, my grandkids see us talk, clean and drive these awesome machines......and they are very interested in them. I hear them tell their friends all about it. In fact they just showed up at the house last nightand will be here for five nights and the youngest grandson says, I can't wait till we can get the corvettes out, I want to ride with Paw Paw in the grey one and Levi can ride with GiGi in the red one.

Ps, I think there's another thread on this topic too where someone like norm kept a running total of the members average age.
