C7 Engine Compartment

Over the years, I've had several Vettes, some show quality, some run of the mill, but all had a decent looking engine compartment (even the C4).........except the C7's. What I mean by that is its looks........too busy, just not pleasing to the eye, in my opinion. It would take a lot of mods (if available less expensively) to dress it up. Not even going to try, but I'll give it one thing......

Out of all the one's I've owned, this C7 engine compartment by far stays the cleanest. I think I may have put a thousand miles on it since the last wipe down, and it barely shows any dust or dirt. I have travelled over the same routes, roads, hi-ways and byways as the others, which they get filthy in a thousand miles. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

I've noticed the same thing on my LT1 ... just a few small areas that collect a little dust. I also agree that the both the LT1 and the LT4 look a little bland. When I first got my Stingray, a lot of friends asked to see the engine and it was obvious they were underwhelmed. That's why I did this:

Plus I recently ordered a torch red fuse box cover and brake reservoir cover.

I've had the same reaction: the C7 engine bay stays cleaner than any other car I've owned. Partly, maybe, because of the hood vent which directs a lot of the dirty air coming in through the radiator out of the engine compartment.

Bob, I think you hit the nail on the head for the reason: the hood vent channels a tremendous amount of air out from under the hood.

Looking good gentlemen.

I always wondered how new Corvettes are made. Now I know, that little baby Corvettes are placed on top of the engine, where using the engine heat, they incubate, forming new, full-sized ones. Hope this also works to create C8's.

Norm, ours also stays cleaner than most vehicles I owned, I guess it's due to the design of the air flow and engine bay. I have no mods on our engine or the compartment area so when I need that wow factor I just pop the hood on our 70 Camaro or I look through SRF and view my fellow members engine bays that have mods.

Agree with you on both fronts. To much plastic for my taste but dressing it up gets expensive. Seems the simplicity of the 60's early 70's pre smog equipment days are gone.. I dressed mine a bit and seems like there is always something to add when I have $$ burning a hole in my pocket.

And my 72 Nova ...

Or 1965 Mustang..

Life and engine compartments were much simpler then...

Yelp, now there is an engine bay you can get both feet in.

Gotta add my 66 small block to the mix.

My C7 Z06 engine bay doesn't get dirty. I wipe it down every wash but it's usually just the water from washing.

Mine stays clean as well. I do have to wipe down the seal where the hood meets the vent bottom, but minimal effort is required. I also agree that the engine compartment is somewhat bland, but the sound of that motor makes up for it. I have not done engine dress up, but I do like the way it looks. There are some great pictures on this thread!

Also amazed at how clean the C7 engine compartment stays. Its still a work in progress (worthy of some pics later this year or early next). Love the Z; but man, do I miss this one------

I find the engine bay in a C7 to be lame looking. Lots of black plastic. Functional & easy to work on, but no pizazz. Prior to C7 ownership I had a Cadillac XLR that had a finished look to its engine bay. People always wonder what is under the hood of one of these hot rods and they are definitely underwhelmed.
