I have been contacted by several forum members asking about the number of failed LT1 & LT4 engines. While I do know definitively, I do know that on a percentage basis that the failure rate is fairly low. However, I also am aware of how significant an event it is for the individual that has experienced a failure. I had not been keeping track of failures, but recent postings in a specific thread has indicated that several members are now experiencing failures or possible failures. I would like this thread to serve as a tracking thread to provide us with some indication of the failure rate experienced by our membership.

What I would ask is that only engine failure events that have occurred to our forum members be reported. Please indicate your symptom that first indicated your problem, the result, and what remedial action transpired after that event. (i.e. engine replacement or vehicle buy back)

I also request that this thread not be subverted into a rant, or a discussion thread. If you want to discuss your own particular situation you are free to initiate your own thread siting your particular issue.

As is the case with the catch can report thread only reports are allowed and anything else will be deleted.

If you make a report give us as much information as you can provide, such as model year, C7 type, mileage, and keep your post updated as your situation progresses.

ag4life96, any update since its been a week? What dealership did you take it to if you can say. I use Classic Chevrolet for all maintenance and never needed repairs thank God.

Update. Been driving it now about 500 miles after the lifters, spark plugs and valve springs were changed. Getting a blinking check engine light when I drive it hard. Goes away completely if I drive normal city driving. I also see a drop in rpm about 200 rpms at constant speed on flat roads, bounces up and down 200 rpm...
Dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow. I’m hoping they can work out the kinks, and get it 100% right.

LGARCIA, it's sad to read that you're still having problems with your C7 Masterpiece, they need to get it 120% right!

Got it back today, all they documented as done is the filter and fluid change for the shudder from the torque converter (TSB). They claim it should fix things, so far it is driving strong again!! I hope this does it, only 14K miles....I’m still looking forward to many more :)

Hey there! I'm baaaack! Last time I posted was in December 2017. To recap my issues, on 12/04/17 i took my 2017 C7 Stingray Z51 to Clay Cooley Chevrolet in Dallas because my engine was making a horrible noise and my wheels would pop when turning. (I bought the car from Autonation North Richland Hills Chevrolet)

Diagnosis was:

1: Replaced Drive Belt Tensioner-fixed the ticking noise
2: Replace propeller shaft hub clamp bolt for driveshaft to engine per TAS. That reduced the rattle, knocking noise but didn't fix it. TAS recommended replacing driveshaft assembly (aka torque tube)

Miles in: 2621
Miles out: 2650

On Saturday, 02/10/18, I start to hear another grinding noise when i accelerate so I take it to Huffhines Chevrolet in Plano where i bought my 1st Corvette in 2008. On 2/13 my Service Adviser called and said they needed to replace my "Torque Tube" AGAIN!! I am not even to 4,000 miles yet.

I did write an email to the CEO of GM detailing my issues, etc and have not heard from anyone. (Disclaimer...i did not expect the CEO herself to respond, but i did expect SOMEONE to)...after all, it's called Customer Service. After reading some of our similar posts, i get the feeling that Chevrolet doesnt care about their Corvette customers or our safety.

Have any of you initiated the Lemon Law on your situations? I am really considering it.

I have had good success with the Texas Lemon Law (Article 4413(36) Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes). Lot of posts here about it. I am in Texas as well and always have been with my claims. There is a lot of research you need to do such as satisfying the notification requirement etc. This must be followed to the LETTER! What you need to understand is that when you decide to go this route there is no turning back. The matter gets kicked up to GM and the Dealer is pretty much out of the process from that point. Writing the CEO may make you feel better but the machine that is GM gets this stuff all the time. It is no big deal just a part of doing business.

Bottom line protect yourself because if you are going to depend on the Good Will of GM you will be waiting a long time.

I deal with litigation and complex regulations/contracts both in my business life and my personal life (constantly over the years oil companies damage to our ranch from spills etc.) so this kind of thing is easy for me. It is a protracted deliberate process that is not forgiving just KNOW what you are getting into.

IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DO THIS-----better read what Elegant posted above 5 times then read it again!

Please do not mention Lemon Law nor getting an attorney as you work your way through with Huffines prior to your being unable to get your car fully fixed. It’s like waving a red flag to a bull. Please read sections 13.1 through 13.3 of your Owner Manual.

Hopefully Huffines who is highly experienced, can and will solve your problem this last time and you can enjoy driving your car!

Best of luck to you.
