A good chance You Are just overfilled....

 

yes it is a z51 and i constantly check the oil. it's not over fill. has 3700 miles.

 

Check for posts and threads from smokey12 and ret9580. Smokey12 had his oil get in the air intake without the car being overfilled (museum delivery). Ret9850 had his overfilled multiple times by an incompetent dealership, and his leaked oil on his garage floor.

If your problem is the same as some other Z51 oil issues (IF it is the same root cause), then, yes, it is a known problem.

90% sure that's your issue. Also will guarantee the RX system will correct it. Your ingesting a ton of oil into your intake air charge and that is what causes the intake valve coking issues. Lot's of threads to read about the details, cause, effect, and cure.

thanks...found out it was the AC. they told me it was the AC line. will get it replace under warranty. looks like engine oil but my oil level never change... and it only leak when i blast the ac. good news I think...

 

A failed belt tensioner can also leave a puddle of oil like that. Did you happen to notice that the AC had quit working? In any case, hopefully they got you fixed up.

 

The AC worked but I did heard weird noise when I turn it up like something is losing pressure (air).

 

If your AC system had a failed line, the compressor should have de-energized. You might have heard the line fail, but that sound should have stopped after the compressor kicked out. I guess the real question is: Do you / will you hear any noise after it is fixed?

 

UPDATE: got a call from the dealer...it is an oil leak under the air box! was never the AC line which they thought at first!

 

If it was the AC it would be green fluid. My dealer told me the same BS the first time I had the oil leak. Listen to tuner boost.

Yep, continually overfilled by an incompetent service department, until I took it to a new dealer that got it right. By that time I had started California Lemon Law proceedings and was given a FULL refund of everything, including all my car payments to date.

wow sorry to hear you had to go through that. after the dealer cleaned mine up they told me it won't leak again. the problem was fixed. I'll just change my own oil from now on to make sure. basically nobody's going to take care of your car like its owner would...

 

Use the good dealer and not the other!! I believe all dealers servicing the Corvette should have at least one Corvette specific master tech on staff, but oil changes are done by the "Lube Techs", and that is generally the kids w/very little knowledge on this things, but every dealer is independently owned so blind trust is all most can put in the dealer they use w/out guidance from others like the members here that have done a good job of weeding out the bad, and praising the good.

 

So how many quarts of oil should be put in during an oil change?

 

Make sure you measure how much comes out before you put any back in.

 

Put in 9 and then ounces until you are mid stick...

I found oil on my garage floor his morning did some research and found this thread. I have no doubt I am having the same common problem with oil purge thru PCV air intake system. Has GM offered a no-cost (i.e. warranty) solution to this issue? I'm heading to dealer on Monday. Your feed back will be appreciated.

 

Not from GM, only the aftermarket. Our system corrects it but also follow glen-e and others on the oil fill amount...that helps substantially.

 

Good to see they are finally addressing it in the new Z06. This started with the first LS7 C6's

 

I removed my air bridge yesterday to see if the RX and clean side separator are doing their job. I had a teaspoon of oil come out, but I had not turn the air bridge over to drain any oil out before in installed the RX system originally. I'll have to drive it at the track a few more times before I check the bridge again. My oil level is right to the top of the marks on the dip stick. I drive the hell out of the car at the track. I've almost worn out the edge of the drivers side tire after three track days. So I'd have to say a full dry sump system is ok, or the clean side separator is saving my butt. My car only has 3,928k's, so the recommended 5,000 miles is crap.

 

How many miles before and after RX installation? Teaspoon came out of the air bridge...so, how much came out of your catch can?

I think it was 1,300k's when I put the RX can on. The bridge was bone dry, that's when I should have turn the bridge over to see if an oil had accumulated inside. I think the oil was in the smallest chamber where the hose comes from the dry sump.
The first time I check the can was 3,000k and a teaspoon came out. Then I just checked as I put the car away, 3,928k's. Another teaspoon came out if the can.
I broke the engine in fairly aggressively. Did my first oil change at 500k's and use GM semisynthetic oil. Second oil change as the car got put away last week.

 

I think what we need here is more people to chime in and say what is working for them. With just a few people mentioning the issue they are having it makes this car sound like it wasn't designed very well. It is unfortunate for the few that are having issues. But for the silent majority this car is working very well.
I've tried fairly hard to do what you aren't suppose to do with this car during the break in period, and it just keeps taking it. It's just my opinion, but the more I read about people babying their cars, the more issues they seem to have.
They called it a Stingray for a reason.

That is all great indeed, but that foolish statement about "you drove your sports car too aggressively" is just embarrassing to me. I wish it would stop and they never said it to anyone, even those with the problem.

Why? By saying that it seems they are trying to blame the owners, even when the owners did nothing wrong. I prefer to see a business take a problem by the horns and drive it to resolution instead of try to blame the customer (and especially try to blame them with something which, in turn, makes the company look incompetent with respect to their core business).

That is just really, really bad PR.

I've let my dealer do both without any issues. My service manager loves this car. He comes out to talk with me every time it bring it in. He may bring his Hot Wheels Camaro to the track next year also.

 

Any that want to check to see if you have the issue (not all drip on the ground), simply remove the air bridge from the throttle body and reach into the bridge with a clean paper towel. Takes 5 minutes and very rare to see any that do not have oil saturated in the intake air bridge. Take these apart steadily and only one to date had very little (almost none) in it...and that is out of a couple dozen? Try it....just takes a flat blade screw driver.

 

Color used to mean something, now with the way engines run, color of oil changes dark quickly in its life. A turbo or supercharged engine goes black almost immediately on changing...

 

Really? All my other cars oil don't go this dark. And i changed them at around 10,000 miles. I think its the cheap oil they put in...i could be wrong.

 

Dont go that far before the 1st change!!! Get that original fill out no longer than 1000 miles.
